RANDOM THOUGHT:

I was watching the news last night and found out that I had been barcoded and didn’t even know! apparently  Mississisppi is one of the 26 States in compliance with the U.S Real Act. A law passed back in 2005 to prevent ID fraud while also varifying social security numbers and immigration status. So thats why there is a barcode on the back of your drivers license, personally I had often wondered what was up with that. Meanwhile according to the Department of Homeland Security effective January 22nd travelers from states that are not compliant will need to provide a Passport or Military ID along with their drivers license when boarding a flight.

WHAT’S GOING ON?:

Jacksn Public Schools are closed for a third day due to low or no water pressure, this is effecting 61% of the schools. JPS says the absence of water pressure impacts the ability to provide heat to the schools since the HVAC requires water to warm the buildings, the cafeterias can’t prepare meals, there’s no drinking water and there’s problem of proper sanitation. The Superintendant says they will continue to monitor things on a day by day basis. no decision on how the school system will make up these water days.

Mississippi has another one of thoes ugly firsts we can live without. A report fron the Center for Disease Control says the Magnolia State has the highest infant mortality rate in the country. The report says that for every 1000 live births in Mississippi 9.08 infants die before their first birthday. A number of factors play a role in the infant deaths, poor pre-natal care, no insurance, premature births, difficulty getting to healthcare providers Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and more.

The city has started testing water samples for contaminants, since they have been able to increse the flow from the largest of the Jackson’s two water plants thus increasing water pressure. The hope is that the Boil water notice can be lifted Thursday.
