American and Chinese officals met Thursday to negotiate new trade agreements, there was no agreeement which is bad news for US and Chinese consumers. The Trump administration already has imposed a 10% tariff on some 200 billion dollars worth of goods and the President now says that will increase to 25% and they are looking at putting a 25% tariff another 325 billion of Chinese goods that are not currently subject to a tariff’, that would mean virtually all Chinese goods. China said this morning that it regretted the tariffs and it woulld take countermeasures, meaning we will see tariffs on goods bound for China. That dorm fridge we once paid $100 for will now cost us $125.00 or more. The tariff went into effect hours after U.S. and Chinese negotiators met Thursday hoping to start a new round of talks aimed at reaching common ground on the trade situation between our countries. Well we know President Trump can stir up a hornets nest with one tweet. and China is not some Mom and Pop contractor with whom he trying to renegotiate a bill for work already performed. This whole scenario is crazy since China hold more than a trillion in U.S. debt. So for China it’s important that the U.S. economy does well so the U.S. government can service the debt, but not at the cost of China’s economy.
