EQUAL PAY DAY WOAD 09/22/19
Today is Equal Pay Day for for black women. Now the first equal pay day of 2019 occured in April of this year when American women based on median income figures are thought to have earned as much as white males. So in essence it took them 16 months to earn as much as their white male counterparts did in 12 months, but it takes black women 20 months to do the same thing, and Native American and Latina women won’t reach that benchmark until Sept.23 and Nov. 20. No wonder we are still talking about equal pay for equal work. Here in Mississippi a black woman makes 55 cents for every dollar made by white non-Hispanic men. Nationally it’s 61 cents for every dollar and the pay in Louisiana is even worse at 48 cents for every dollar. What’s going on here? women can work as doctors ,police officers, EMT’s truck drivers etc. But cant get paid equally for the job done, now i’m not running for political office but if my wife, sister or daughter were doing a job that men or other women were doing I would like for the them to be paid equally for that job. We can we ask women to educate themselves, and become rocket scientists, educators etc, but not pay them fairly for their expertise? that ain’t right.
