RANDOM THOUGHT’S:

I came accross an interesting article on TIME.COM written by former Governor Ray Mabus, in it he says although he grew up in the segregated south, he believes that Confederate statues and memorials should have never been erected. “These are symbols of unrepentant oppression -every single one- must be removed now and for ever”. it’s interesting to note that a few years after the Civil War Robert E. Lee seem to share a simular view writing he thought it “wiser not to keep open the sores of war but to … commit to oblivion the feelings of engendered”. Mabus went on to say that the vast majority of the Confederate monuments, including the addition of elements of the Confederate battle flag to some Southern state flags occured between the 1880s and the 1920s as part of  the effort to re-establish white supremacy. I agree with Mabus’s quote by William Faulkner that for too many people ” the past isn’t dead, it isn’t even the past”. Although he will not admit it, the insensitive vitriol that flows through President Trumps twitter account feeds a segment of our society that yearns for things to be the way they were. Protests in Portland and other places underscore the racial divide that is being promoted by the White Nationalist movement in this country. Something the White House is only willing to denounce when it is politically expedient to do so.  the Confederacy was designed to protect the life and loves of one segement of society, at the expense of life and limb of another even if that ment going to war with fellow countrymen. And they did!!
