MARVELOUS MONDAY WOAD 11/11/19 VETERANS DAY
RANDOM THOUGHT’S:
I am saluting three special veterans today Willie Clay, Larry Clay and Otha Davis who also happen to be my brothers. All three signed up for the Army within 30 days of each other. Now I don’t think the desire was to serve our country was high on their list of piorites, but rather they saw this as a means of escaping the poverty of the Southside of Chicago during the late 70’s. I thought about joining my self but Mom called me and told me “Uncle Sam has three of my four son’s you’er not going to the army”. I said yes ma’am, and not wanting to lie to momma I shifted my focus to the “Airforce” that is until I went to Jackson State University for orientation and found out I had enough grant money to cover tution and room and board. So I decided to do what I wanted to do everyday for the next four years, as opposed to what someone told me to. My brothers learned discipline and other life skills that still serve them today. My brother Otha was 15 days away from retirement when President Bush issued a stoploss order that resulted in him being sent to Iraq. He was the only one to serve in a theater of war, we laid him to rest in March of this year, at his service a fellow soldier told us my brother prayed that he would never be shot at and that he would never have to shoot anyone, God answered his prayer. Today we salute all who served and pray for those who are serving. “This we’ll defend”
