RANDOM THOUGHTS:

The Jesse Smollett case remains a lighting rod for protesters who support him and the Fraternal Order of Police who want him prosecuted for lying about a staged racial attack. The two groups clashed in front of the downtown office of Kim Foxx the Cook County State Attorney. The reaction to Foxx’s dropping of charges against Smollett has been fierce and divisive. I expected that at the very lease he would be asked to pay for the cost of the investigation. I’m just saying that only seemed fair. but Foxx said her office would focus on more serious crimes. The Chicago Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) rallied outside of Foxx’s office building wearing buttons that read “Foxx must go”. The FOP protest was met by somewhat smaller groups which included the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, they carried sign that said “FOP is racist”. There were verbal clashes but no one got violent. But the Question remains “Just what was Smollett end game? what did he hope to accomplish with this charade, that he has continued to insist happen. I’ll tell you what has happened it has caused a even deeper divide between Police and citizens, during mondays protest some officers shouted “Blue Lives Matter” to which protester responded “Racists go home” and some said “16 shots and a cover-up referring to the October 2014 shooting of a 17 year old by a Chicago police officer and the following cover up. There are no winners in this situation.
