Most of us can’t readily tell you where Sri Lanka is on a map, but what happen there Easter Sunday morning is just as news worthy as the fire at Notre-Dame. At least 290 people were killed and around another 500 were wounded as well coordinated attacks on churches and luxury hotels were carried out. Authorites believe an Islamist militant group is behind the attacks, they said a another country warned of a likely attack but said they did not recieve enough specific details to act on and the warning didn’t include hotels or tourist sites as potential targets. Bombings occured in 8 locations around the country, the government has since ordered around the clock security at all churches. Police have since arrested 24 people in connection with the bombings, a number of people where arrested in locations near the capital, Colombo, where 87 detonators were found apparently left at a private bus stand. Six of the explosions were apparently carried out by suicied bombers. We live in a very violent world aside from the obvious on going wars in Middle East and other flash points around the globe. This island nation located off the coast of India by the way, last saw this type of activity during the countrys civil war which ended in 2009. But whats the difference between this and the Boston Marathon bombing, the Vagas concert shooting or the World Trade Center attacks? None it all boils down to demented people using violence to express their ideaology. No one’s opinion is more important anothers, and if we are to survive and thrive we have to practice tolerance..
