The question is what happen to “Sweetie Pies” I was one of those people who had been waiting nearly a year for the opening of the St Louis base restaurant. The famous soul food eatery is named after Robbie “Sweetie Pie” Montgomery a former Ikette (back ground singer for Ike and Tina Turner), and a native Mississippian. I was in on vacation in Orlando when I saw a story on my news feed saying “Sweetie Pie’s was opening last Thursday. Immediately visiting this establishment move to the top of my bucket list. Apparently this was true for a lot of people, according to Ms. Montgomery’s son and owner Tim Norman there were a 100 people in the lobby of the plaza building waiting for a seat, when the buildings management told him he had to shutdown because there had been complaints. City officals also said that a huge smoker sitting in front of the building violated city ordinances. I was glad to hear that Norman wants to remain in Jackson and will be looking for another location. Saying that he knew that a number of the tenants, residents and businesses had been in the building a long time and he didn’t want to interrupt anyone else’s business. The restaurant chain gained national notoriety as a result of the OWN network reality show “Welcome to Sweetie Pies”. Hopefully the city will assist helping “Sweetie Pies” relocate.
