TERRIFIC THURSDAY WOAD 01/16/20 FLOOD
RANDOM THOUGHT’S:
It was raining pretty hard when I drove into work this morning, I wondered to myself isthis going to be another “Ground Hog Day ?” a node to the movie where Jim Carrey character kept repeting the same day. After Tuesday’s flash flooding closed streets, businesses and at least one school in Jackson MS.Water gushed from some manhole covers and some people living in an apartment complex near a flood stream had to be rescued. The idea of more rain with the Pearl River nearing flood stage is not comforting. Plus the Corps of Engineers announced that the Mississippi River would soon be at flood stage for three Mississippi cities located on the river. They have closed the Steele Bayou flood control gates a move designed to prevent flood waters from backing up and flooding Mississippi Delta farm land. Some people are wondering if this is a sign of another flood, last years flooding lasted for months and prevented farmers from planting crops, impacting them and all the businesses that support them. Everybody from the Ag- Coop to the local food market felt the impact. Obviously it’s a do over we can live without, Last years backwater flood crest was 98 feet, this time it’s expected to reach 91 feet but recent rains have officals on alert. People living and working in the Eagle lake area of Warren county were hard hit last year and will likely be victimized by nature again. I have to invest in some boots and a boat.
