The city of Jackson is talking “Transparency” as it unveileds a new data driven website. The idea is to make data available on all aspects of the city from public safty to one percent spending. Robert Blaine Jackson’s Administrative Officer said the stats and charts will will help demonstrate the city’s commitment to transparency. The new interactive website has more than 50 interactive charts and more are expected to be added in the coming weeks. I think this is a great idea I voted for Mayor Lumumba but I have not always been happy with his administrations decisions, and everyone is always saying what are they spending the money on?. So transparency is good in my book, I just hope they keep it fresh and up todate. There is a section that deals with Jackson’s budget. Which will allow users to mouse over sections of the budget to see how money was alloted and spent during the first two fiscal years of the current administration. The goal for that section now is to get the current fiscal year added, after thats done Blaine said people will be able to see in real time how the budget functions. It should also be noted that former Mayor Tony Yarber launched a similar open data website during his time in office, but software upgrades are expected to make this a more user friendly experience .
