There are other things I would like to talk about in my daily blog, but President Donald J. Trump keeps doing and saying stuff that can’t be ignored. Last evening he delivered his first Oval Office address and ranted about a”growing humanitarian and security crisis” at the southern border. All to justify his demand for 5.7 billion dollars to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico. This he said would address drug trafficking and illegal immigration. Of course he is ignoring reports that say such activity has declined in recent years, and there are cheaper ways of enhancing border security. Democratic leaders have said this is not about security but about Trump keeping a campaign promise which his base supports. Thats why he was willing to shutdown the government. Last evening Trump said this was a ” humanitarian crisis, a crisis of the heart, a crisis of the soul”. The question is for who? the more than 800.000 federal employees he has furloughed, some of whom have to report to work even though they don’t expect to paid this week. I know a TSA worker who’s working without pay and I know other federal workers who are looking for temporary employment just to make ends meet. These people have to pay mortages, car payments, college tutition etc. At this point this has become the second longest shutdown in history, Mr President there are somethings for which you really don’t want to be remenbered as being number one. And also if you go through life with the attitude that “the only good idea is your idea” sooner or later you crash and burn.
