TYSON MEAT WOAD 08/14/19
RANDOM THOUGHT’S:
This is crazy! Tyson Fresh Meats is asking the Trump Administration to cut back on the number of federal inspectors at a Kansas beef plant. In it’s request Tyson is perposing that they be allowed to use its employees. instead of independent Department of Agriculture inspectors. Needless to say this request has raised concerns amoung consumer and food safety advocates, I’m concerned too. This plant is located in Holcomb Kansas and Tyson employees would be tasked with identifying unsuitable beef and triming away defects. The request is designed to speed up Tyson factory line. Word is the USDA is considering the request which is the first of its kind for a beef plant. This could be part of a broader plan to shift quality control from the government inspectors to factory employees. Allowing the USDA to concentrate on targeted safety inspections. Now for years we have heard that the USDA did not have enough people to do the inspections, I am concerned that 1. the Tyson employees are not going to be trained to do the job, 2. where their loyalty lies, 3. what that going to mean for food safety overall. Apparently Tyson is following the lead of the pork industry, according to reports the Trump administration is finalizing a deal for pork processors which will reduce the number of USDA inspectors and allow factory workers to do the inspections.
