Random thoughts:

Well on this Valentine day which actually was not concocted by Hallmark and other greeting card companies. We are hoping that level heads prevail in Washington, as the House and Senate rush to vote on a spending bill this morning, the package was finalized just before midnight. It does’nt give the President the 5.7 billion he asked for a border wall  but many think he will sign to avoid another government shutdown. Sen. Mitch Mc Connell and other high ranking Republicans are encouraging him to sign it. Meanwhile another crisis is griping the country today, it’s Valentine’s day but no one can find the familiar sweetheart candies!. They really didn’t taste that great but everyone loved the one or two words of endearment found on the candies. Necco the company that made the sweetheart candy also made the Necco Wafer the candy we loved to hate. I’m not sure how long they had been making the sweetheart candy but the Necco Wafer has been around 171 years thats before the Civil War. One store owner learned last summer that production was going to end, so she bought a thousand pounds. She is down to only one hundred pounds and is limiting customers one box per person. According to a story in the “Wall Street Journal” The New England Confectionery Co. began making Sweethearts by special order for weddings in 1866 and begain selling to public in 1902. in recent years production climed to 13 million pounds annualy, most of the candy was sold during the six weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day.
