Canton Mississippi: city of lights, the flea market, movie sets and voter fraud. I can’t believe it but several Canton city offical have been indicted on charges of voter fraud. They include Board of Alderman member Vicky McNeil who is also the former Chief of Police, she faces two counts of voter fraud. The Director of Human and Cultural needs Courtney Rainey was also indicted and faces seven counts. The multiple charges against her include voter fraud, witness intimidation, conspiracy to commit voter fraud and voting by an unqualified person. Deputy city clerk Desmond King, Donnell Robinson and Jennifer Robinson are all facing voter fraud charges. Keeping in mind that all are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. It’s sad that to think that there could be possibly be such wide spread corruption in this little Mississippi town. Canton has so much potential to be a poster child for whats right about a small town in the south. It’s tax base boosted by the nearby Nissian Plant which also provides good paying jobs for area residents. It’s homegrown southern charm has drawn moviemakers and bargan hunters. I have strolled on the Square during Christmas and visted the Canton Gospel Homecoming and had a great time. The town doesn’t deserve these kind of headlines.
